I have an old Ranger bass boat, 16' long. It doesn't do great in rough water, but on fairly calm it is a Cadillac. I really like the old tub.

I have been told they were referred to as "log boats". It is very narrow compared to todays bass boats, and has a "gull wing" profile when viewed bow on.

Does anyone have any background or info on these boats? I would love to find out more about them, any pictures or sales literature would be great.

Thanks for any help anyone might offer.

you might contact Ranger boats, they are still around, typical beginning of the bass boat, tri hull flat bottom, 40" +- wide, with 2 pedestal seats. they were basically lake boats. they have come along way, in 35 years.

They are good boats and real popular in their day. Kind narrow for my tastes, but to each his own. Probably wouldn't want to overpower them...they were made before the pro fishermen literally raced from spot to spot at top speed. Don't know how much motor they're rated for but I would respect whatever Ranger tells you about power rating.

actually they were not rated very high. we had a 72 Terry Bass, 16 ft, rated for a 35hp. has a 25 on it, as we could not find a 35, only 40hp. this was the beginning of the "Bass Boat" era.
