3/8 fuel hose is a good idea. In fact, I got rid of the fuel connectors at the cowl and just ran the 3/8 hose through the existing fuel connector cowl hole direct to the fuel pump inlet barb. Gets rid of a restriction at the fuel connectors. Fuel hoses can cause problems, esp the bulb. I have seen the valves in the bulb actually come loose and block fuel flow completely.

If your floats are good you do not need to buy new ones.
Save the money for all the gas that ole engine is going to drink.

I chased a fuel gremlin on my 115, i just said the heck with it, rebuilt carbs, 3/8 line all the way through out including fuel line from tank, new primer bulb and new fuel pump.

Have not had a problem since. Let us know how it turns out.

I've had many a passenger turn around, look back at that outboard, and say.......... "It's hard to believe that thing pushes this boat like that!" ........... Priceless moments you know!!. So I guess she can drink the fuel if she wants to. I stilll get a kick out of the guys with the 150's the most though. I'll run along side them and wave. They KNOW that I don't have a payment book along with my outfit and I know it makes them sick. ......... ;-) ....... Thanks for the help guys!................ ALAN

I did the same thing with the 115, bypassed the fuel connection at the cowl and ran it straight to the pump.

I bypassed that loooong ago..... :) ......... I think I'll up-size the fuel delivery lines and rebuild those carbs again for good measure. I have a rebuild kit on hand for the fuel pump as well. It'll get a makeover too while I'm in there. Thanks again........ ALAN

IF........a couple of turns on a stator coil shorted from the short to ground during the wire chafing,

THEN.......the reduced stator output will limit WOT rpm.

two test

1 DVA reading underway at max rpm and again as the fault occurs, compare readings, any substantial difference proves defective stator

2 timing light OR inductive tach underway as the fault occurs, ignition failure casts suspicion on the stator

I may be wrong, doing this from memory but stator should ohm at 450 to 600 ohms resistance, if you do have a short in thestator resistance should show it.

Do not have manual in front of me doing this by memory.

http://www.boatpartstore.com/page40.asp

chart for dva and resistance measurements
should help on ignition
amp of stator will have different resistance readings

What do you mean when you say "inductive tach underway"? If you are referring to the tach acting strangely, it isn't. I am almost certain that this is a fuel related issue, as I have fuel leaking from the air box when priming the system with the bulb and the outboard now surges when throttled up. My dumb luck!!! I'll leave it sitting, for the time being, until I can get those carbs finished up. No sense in risking a powerhead failure due to lack of lubrication. Once I go through the carbs, re-plum the fuel delivery lines with 3/8 hoses, and rebuild that fuel pump I'll investigate the problem further IF it still exists. I'm thinking this will take care of the problem though. We'll see soon enough I suppose. Thanks for the input............. ALAN

One last question....... How probable is it that the existing floats are still good? After all, they ARE only 18 months old. Thanks again.

I am still using the original float in my 1970 33hp.

Your floats are most likely still good just need to be set correctly or some trash got into the needle and makes it stay open.

Sure sign of carb probs is when you pump the bulb and it leaks.

I tried all the solvents I could think of and a few were really good, but none as good as that high dollar napa carb soak with the basket, sure cleans all the gunk out soaking over night.

you can use a small drill bit to push through your high speed jets on the bottom of the carbs to make sure thay are clean.

I also think it may be fuel related, I went through the same problems on a 73 85hp rude, carbs, ignition, finally found a bad spark plug wire, chased it for weeks.

Anxious to hear how yours turns out. thanks for keeping us updated

was running some smaller line rebuilt pumps cahnged to larger line
from tank to carbs no problems since
