I just bought a Sweetwater pontoon with this engine, but don't know what year the motor is Serial # 0E009962.

How can you tell what year it is by the serial #? Is there a number system or what?

No system really.
They just use consecutive numbers.
Then continue on from where they left off for the next year.

I have the same issue. Supposedly mine is a 1995 model 70HP. Serial # OE10815?

What serial number > year reference are you using? Is there also a reference to model number? I have a book that's dated 1994 and an engine with serial number OE162385.

I'm also looking for a new lower unit. Seal failed, lost gear lube, cooked gears and snap crank shaft.

Using the serial numbers that are listed in the parts catalog, that is year specific.

Serial numbers 0E138600 THRU 0E202999 were used in 1996
