Need your guys' help for a school project

Hi everyone,

I am currently a business student at Simon Fraser University located in Vancouver, B.C.

For my marketing research class, we have been asked to do a marketing research project on basically any topic with real world implications. Being 2008, we've been encouraged to make it as relevant as possible (think the internet!). I've decided to do my topic on "Designing a successful outdoors recreation E-Commerce site" with hiking, bicycling, and *drum roll* boating being the main activities researched.

Part of the project is conducting a survey which is where I ask for your guys' help. I've compiled a very short 9 question survey that I would be extremelyyyyy grateful for your help in. The survey does not collect any personal information (including email addresses) and will take you less than 5 minutes to complete.

I found it interesting that while you are a student at a Canadian University you only solicit responses by geographic area from those who live in the United States. If you live in Canada you are lumped into one large area. There is a very real difference between owning and operating a boat, in Nova Scotia and Ontario or British Columbia. This is particularly apparent when you try to source parts or accessories locally. Thanks; I guess I am a little thin skinned today.

Thanks for your guys' help and suggestions thus far...please keep them coming! As per a moderators request and for the benefit of this forum, I'll be hoping to share my results with everyone in 2-3 weeks time.


As for the comment about only sorting my geographic area in the U.S., this is the crux of all Canadian university students. We must work around predominantly American research and predominantly American survey software which only allows us to sort by geographic region in the U.S..

While you are posting here, you need to keep in mind that there are people from all over the world that use this site. I realize that Simon Frazier is very close to the U.S. border and you are thinking American. As with anything internet, think GLOBAL.

being your from hon-couver, and all........

i would think if you just started to read in these forums for an hour or two.....you would find very specifc information that would give you more insight into boaters needs.

i found the poll to be very general....and not enough information to get a good grade.....

another thing is, that boaters...(or general consumers of a particlar sect) are loyal to framilliararity.....(ok its early for me...i cant spell)

ie ....when i am looking for an on line product......i will look here (iboats) first.
...even if the product was a few dollars more here....i would still purchase here.
