I recently bought a 20' 4' 1993 angler with a 175 Merc outboard. The maiden voyage, trim/tilt worked fine. When I went to take it out the second time, wouldn't trim out while on trailer. Checked Hydraulic fluid/ OK. Down relay activates tilt down, Up relay won't. Up relay closes( I can hear it), but no tilt action. Down relay closes and functions. (Now need manual bleed screw replaced/Nylon screw) Is it safe to assume the motor works in tilt down, relays swapped with same result, that the problem might be a bad wire from the out on the up relay to the motor?

Brat, You need to determine if that tilt motor is two wire or three wire. On a three wire system, the green wire gets power from the down solenoid and the blue wire gets power from the up solenoid. Black is ground for both.

On a two wire system, I think the relays switch the power to make the tilt motor run both ways.

First check for both is to see if you get power out of both relays/solenoids.

You should have the small black ice cube relays, swap positions of them. If you have up and no down change BOTH relays. If solenoids ,take test lite and put on the blue wire and trigger solenoid. If no lite solenoid bad.

As I suspected, it was a shorted wire from the hot lead from the relay out to the trim motor. Problem solved. Thanks for the input.
