Does anyone know of a good online or downloadable boating simulator? I am looking for something that is realistic. (as possible considering it is online or on a pc).

The best one I have ever found is http://www.shipsim.com/home.php
It is along the lines of MS Flight Sim. You captain any of 14 boats/ships. From a 25ftish tour boat, all the way up to the Titanic, in either canned scenarios or in free play. I enjoy running the Fountain powerboat around San Francisco Bay at 80mph.

Check out the downloadable demo. If interested in buying it, it's available on Amazon.com.

It's not bad. The sea rescue scenarios are engaging and just driving around checking out the scenery is entertaining on a cold winter night. But, there isn't anything that I would consider really exciting. I'm more into the Combat Flight sims and racing games.
I wish it had some offshore racing scenarios, with diferent locations and 20-30 boats on the coarse.

I'll give it 5/5 for scenery. (The Statue of Liberty is particularly well done.)
4/5 for the scenarios.
3/5 for excitement.
4/5 overall.

If I were to do it now, I would buy the older version instead of 2008 and save about $20. Or pickup a used copy. Amazon currently has the '08 version for $25, which is 2/3 of what I paid.

i strongly suggest a coast guard auxillary, boating course, at least you get the principles correct. may even make a boating friend.
