I am replacing all 3 batteries in my bass boat. Which do you guys prefer price and quality wise. Keep in mind I live about 2 hours away from the closest marina or sporting goods store...We live off wal-mart /advance auto parts/ Autozone, etc.. All opinions appreciated...thanks Trent Short

Welcome Aboard Mate.

First. It seems like to me since your replacing all three batteries. It might pay you to drive the two hours. Take the Admiral out for dinner and make a day out of it___? However you should be able to check out some prices out via the telephone or internet before you make the trip.

Wal-Mart's usually has the Lower prices or Sam's if you know someone with a card and don't mind buying them dinner.

Re: best battery?

When I had my bass boat, I would use Optima for my starting battery and any moderately priced batteries for my troll motor.

Keep in mind literally weight means power. The Trojan 30XHS is an excellent 130 amp hour 12v. deep cycle battery.Standard equipment on GEM elactric cars. The absolute hardest application for any battery. The GEM will reduce
its 6 30XHS batteries to 40% in less than an hour.Yet they will last 3 years and with a little luck more. The heaviest deepcycle at Wallmart with luck might last a year in a GEM.30XHS runs about $150.
DEKA has a 105 amp hour battery that is pretty good not as good as the 30XHS but runs about $90.

Re: best battery?

I'm on my way to my local farm store to pick up a pair of generic group 27 deep cycles ($56.00 each). These batteries will last a minimum of three years and they have 180 minute reserve capacity at the standard 23A draw. I can buy two of those for vary little more money than one with marginally larger capacity (group 31). The "best" battery is not always the "best deal" from a purely economic point of view.

I don't think anybody will much beat that price and 180 Min Reserve are good deep cycle batteries.

Re: best battery?

In The Past Years I Always Went The Cheep Way With The Wal-mart Batteries And Iv Found That They Last Maybe 1-2 Years And I Was Charging Them After Every Use. 3 Years Ago I Bought 4 Interstate Batteries (the Top Of The Line ) 3 Deep Cycle And One Starting. Two R For My Trolling Motor Which I Can Go Two And A Half Days On Of Hard Fishing The Other One Is For My Electronics Which I Charge About Every Week And A Half And For My Starting Battery I Only Charge At The End Of The Season, I Believe The Money In The End Is Worth It I Think I Paid About 125-150 Apiece

Capitalizing every word makes your posts really hard to read. Try fewer caps and more periods. :)
