Hi purchased a boat last summer and been working on it a little bit over time. But, my real question is how can I install a Bilge pump with out ripping up the floor?

Re: Dumb Question

there should be a well in the stern, where the transom drain is, put it in there.

What make of boat is this that didn't have a well in the stern area?
Just curious. Was there a new floor put in and the person put the new floor over the well?

Re: Dumb Question

Boat size and boat type is an important element here. My small Marlin 15' does not have a bilge, but has a tendency to fill with water when swimmers and skiers get in. A pump in the back well would be nice. If you do not call it a bilge pump, what do you call it?

If his boat is big enough to have a bilge, then his question changes.

Put the pump in there (your picture of the bilge).

Re: Dumb Question

... you have got some work to do. where is the battery or accessories power harness? do you have an bilge pump exit hole on your upper gunwhale? dont screw the pump to the bildge but onto a sealed block of wood and glue this wood block to your bilge area.

Re: Dumb Question

One dumb question leads to another. What am I looking at? From my view point I am looking under the motor area at the back of the boat. It looks like two motor mount holes and a drain plug hole. Is this correct?

Re: Dumb Question

This is an outboard?
The lower hole should be for a garboard plug, 4200 it in.
for the bilge pump, you'll need to drill a hole in the side of the hull, preferably starboard(so you can see it, if it starts pumping).

Yeah, camera angle looks like it's almost on the deck looking back at the bilge with the two outboard mounting holes in the transom up top and the drain plug hole down on the lower left inside the bilge.

Coors had it right, just wire up the pump, toss it in, and make sure the tube is somewhere over the side and you're all set (for the most basic installation). You can get fancy with it, but you don't have to.

Re: Dumb Question

I learned this trick after almost sinking my boat, forgot the plug, trolled around for 10 minutes, went to get my rods and there was swirling water in my rod locker.
I wired in an alarm to my second bilge pump so if the alarm goes off you know something is wrong, it was I beleive an overheat alarm at one time, really high pitch, couldn't miss it if you were dead.
I have my bilges side by side on a V hull so one is slightly above the other so the alarm doesn't go of when it is pumping rain water ect.

Re: Dumb Question

Yeah I've striped the boat right at the moment i just got done putting the floor in. Now i got to paint and put carpet down, Remount the outboard, seal a crack, Rebuild the dash, But the seats back in and just about every thing you can think of.
