mariner 15 green wires

ive just brought a mariner 15 and have noticed 2 wires sitting there doing nothing you can see them in the pic below they got a blue sleeving around them has anyone any ideas what they are for?

also does anyone no what year roughly this is as there is no serial number on the engine any help will be greatly appreciated

Those are from the lighting coil for lights or when run through a rectifier to charge a battery.

thanks laddies do you know what rectifier i would need also do they just plug into the rectifier then two wires come off rectifier to the battery??

No, after the 2 green wire are fastened to the rectifier a single wire feeds the positive side of the battery and you must run another grd. wire to the engine block. As a marine mechanic I must use a marine approved rectifier, there are many other out there that will work for a lot less money. Heres a wiring diagram to help.

Going by the ign system is a 15C they were all basic the same except for long and short shafts and manual and electric starts, they were built from 1983 till 86 as near as I can tell. We don't service Mariner here so I have very limited knowledge when it comes to them
