Fin broke on my Evanrude. Will it still work okay?

One of the fins is broke off the bottom of my 1958 Evanrude 35hp motor. Model 35514.

It looks like I can easily bolt a new one on but will there by problems with steering?

What would happen if I broke the other one off?

Ezeke,
That housing won't work on his motor - it is for models with the single exhaust housing. Darren has the double-wall housing, the silent package...

35514 is the Lark/Super Sea Horse Super Quiet models

The other type is the Big Twin/Sea Horse.

Super Quiet models have the new in '58 double housing midsection and recirculating cooling system with thermostat.
Big Twins have the single exhaust housing and cooling system like the older motors.

Edit: The "fin" is called an anti-cavitation plate. It's job is to help prevent the prop from sucking air from the surface (properly called ventilation). If it doesn't suck air, what the heck, it's ugly but run it.

Thanks for the replies. Where could I find another half of this engine body to replcae the one with the broke part?

I am new to this boating stuff. I just bought the boat last December.
