70's johnson 70 hp dies when put in gear???

i have a johnson 70 hp that has set up ( in the woods ) for about 5 years. i put a battery on it and it fired rite up. took it to the lake and when i put it in gear and start going it dies.

Anyone know what the problem is??

You may have dropped a cylinder. Test the compression and spark and let us know what you find.

Be sure the fuel and oil is new.

Setting for five years? Carbs are almost guaranteed to be gummed up. Follow Bill's link above and wake that puppy up the right way!

one more question. sometimes it wont start, it makes a "click" sound in the back. i think may be the selinoid. whats the problem there?

ok what do you think is wrong? am i not getting a good conection? because it has been starting. like this morning i hooked up the battery and it did this and messed with it a minute and it finally started.
