Remote control Dock Lites?

In the past years at my lake, it has always been a bit difficult getting into my slip at night. I was thinking that if there was a remote control to turn on lights at my slip would be nice. It would be sorta like using your garage door opener. Has anybody any knowledge of such a gadget for outdoor use? Thanks.........SS

They do have remote activated lights at the home improvement store.

Although it would take a little (very little) electronics tinkering, Remote control (wireless) door bells are very inexpensive. You could rig the receiver (the doorbell) to trigger a relay instead of the chime. That relay could then turn on 110 Vac lights or if you don't have shore power, a battery operated lights could be substituted. Cheap but effective. The wireless transmitter has a range of 75 - 100 feet.

Thanks Silvertip, I don't know why I didn't think of that,,,,,but I do like that idea. I got shorepower at my slip so that won't be a problem. Sorta like the idea of leaving the door chime as this would alert fellow boaters that I'm coming in. Just maybe they would be nice enough to come out and help a bit. They always do if they know you need the help. However, coming into the slip at 3am, they might not like the idea of a door chime going off :D I know they don't like it when the air horn button accidently gets pushed also :D ,,,,,especially when it sticks!

How about using a motion detector activated light?

I would think a simple motion dector light would work. Most operate on heat as well as motion. Could be adapted to operate most any type of light.
Our lights are in the city on a very busy street and don't react too much
to extranious motion.

Not sure if the chop (waves) would set them off or not. Unless I shut them off after returning, I'd think the boat moving around in its mooriing would set it off also. Also the inlet to the dock is narrow barely enough room for 2 boats to pass. It would probably get set off each time someone passed by.....Good thought,,,,,,I may try that as another aproach to see if it is viable or not.....Thanks,,,,,,SS

My neighbor has motion sensor lights over his patio door. Fortunately our bedroom doesn't face that way because the darn lights are on and off all night as the trees, critters, and passing car lights turn then on and off. Other boats in the marina might trigger them as well which might bother others who are on-board their boats for the night. There are remote controls for Christmas lights as well as interior lights that would work as well.

looks like td's got it solved......

so just a quick side note.....on woods lake there is a natural boat launch....no lights anywhere..at 3 am its really hard to spot...even if youve been there a hundred times.....i used my remote car starter and alarm....it has a half mile range......i push the button when in the area....my truck lights flash...and there it is.
