Hi guys.
just wondering - it will be enough strength to use PL Polyurethane adhesive instead epoxy peanbutter, to glued stringers to hull (light grinding + accetone wiping) then glassing them with epoxy +cloth+epoxy mat? Gap between hull and stringers will be 1/8 -1/4''
PL seems to be enough flexible and has power to keep stringers in place then epoxy glass will do rest.

Re: stringers and PL polyurethane adhesive

The only thing the PL or anything else used under the stringer is doing is holding off the hull, so it will be fine. Some people just use a strip of foam.

The PL will work fine, it's epoxy + mat epoxy + woven roven at least twice for stringers.

Actually if you're using poly you generally want a mat/roving/mat/roving layup at a minimum, using something like 18-20 oz roving.

With epoxy, you can just do roving/roving. You don't need the mat.

That said, I just did my stringers with biaxial stitched to mat using epoxy. Two layers of 1708 (17 oz. with 8 oz mat) then switched accidentally to something like 30 oz biaxial with 8-ish oz mat. This is in a 20 foot boat.

Thanks. progress in fanny job. stringers ready, hull ready, epoxy+reinforcement on the way, waiting for better weather. Any of you used uscomposites epoxy? Seems like chippest one.

That's what I use all the time. Good stuff, although I may try the MAS products just to support iboats a lil.

I bought and used MAS locally to rebuild my stringers.
Cheaper, strong, and un-cured clean up involves that expensive, rough on the skin---white vinegar.

Re: stringers and PL polyurethane adhesive

3 years ago when I did the transom, stringers and deck on my boat I used PL. Used it to bed the stringers, used it to glue the transom pieces together (spreads just like peanut butter!) and used it to glue the deck down. Worked great!!

If the price starts to go up on the stuff when I get to my next boat, I'll know where to place the blame ;)

Yes, that's very good glue, the thing I like about it is that it is slow cured, giving plenty of time to adhere to whatever . My leaning post is glued to the deck of my boat, NO screws. But don't leave it on your fingers because it will take weeks to take it off

Re: stringers and PL polyurethane adhesive

What prep should I use bonding this stuff to epoxied wood? Scuff and acetone?

I picked up four tubes off the Concrete/crack sealant yesterday. Gonna glue my deck down with it...

Re: stringers and PL polyurethane adhesive

I think I would ask the company, as concrete sealer may be different.

I believe the surface prep is the same... the concrete/crack sealer is the stuff that's basically identical to 5200... stays just a bit flexible when dried, and doesn't foam up when used.
