Thats double braid, excelent rope but not quite as user friendly as good old 3 strand. Just Google, eye splice rope. You will get links to a bunch of manufacturers sites and others that have instructions on rope work.

Re: splice dock lines

Why use double braid for dock lines when three strand is easier to splice and gives much more information as to it's wear?

I know I am and old fud, but the cordage rules state that the three strand ropes/ lines are stronger at advanced wear than the multi-braded lines. I would accept even a sisal line that I can readily assess the wear than a multi braided nylon line that I cannot see the innards of.

Frequently three strand can be bought at the big box stores for pennies on the marine chandlers dollar.

I will admit my experience here far away from the sea makes me pejudice, so take it for what it is worth.

I find this website helpful in figuring out how to tie knots:

www.animatedknots.com

Click Boating...then Eye Splice. It shows it step by step with 3 strand rope.
