Im looking into getting one of those projectors that can broadcast tv onto a wall or whatever. I want to make my whole wall a tv in the living area that my wife and I watch movies and what not in. Im wondering if anyone has used one of these and how well they project tv/movie images. I had a friend with one and it was great he had it set to a 145" tv! That was awesome but that was years ago and i know that they are better now. Ive been looking at these from staples. A lot of them are HD ready and what not.

These are some a couple of the ones that im looking at. Also i plan to mount it the the celing and project it to the wall. I also am going to hook my pc to it so i can play my PC games on the wall and if i want to look at iboats i can do it on a 150" monitor instead of this here 21" one that i have now. LOL that would be great.

Re: TV projectors. Anyone with any feedback?

we've got an espon moviemate 30s which we really really like. we use it downstairs, take it out in the backyard, use it at parties, etc. comes with built in speakers and dvd player, so it's really easy.

I dont' care about it being 1080p or not (this is usually the first thing people who havent actually seen its picture say - that it isn't high def) Matters not a whit to me. The picture at 300" on a painters tarp is just as good as the picture at 120" on a screen and that picture is great for watching movies and playing the Wii at home.

I have an Infocus 26+ and it works great for me. I got this one before I really got into using projectors but it works great for what I need it for.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of the two projectors you mentioned. In my case, I went for more lumens and a decent contrast ratio.

The 26+ has 2400 lumens and a 2000 to 1 contrast ration. The Optoma has 1300 lumens and 5000 to 1 contrast ratio.

The Infocus is more of a business presentation projector where the Optoma is more for a home theater. The Infocus is not a true high def projector but I run 1080i into mine using a component to vga adapter and the picture looks amazing. It does not do HDMI though, only component. The Infocus is also a native 4:3 picture aspect ratio but will reproduce 16:9 fine.

The Optoma does have an HDMI input along with component and all of the others and is more of a true high def projector. It will do high def using HDMI which is 1080p. It is a true 16:9 aspect ratio and should do fine especially if you plan to use as you described above.

If I had to choose based on all of the above and including price, I might go with the Optoma even though I personally like higher lumens. It's kind of a trade-off though. It all depends on what you want to use it for and how much you want to spend.

Some do even use them outside also. For more info on that and more on projectors go to backyardtheater.com and do some reading in the forums there. But beware, you may find yourself buying 16' wide inflatable screens for outdoors, sound systems and other nice toys.

If the difference between 480 and 1080 doesn't mean a whit to you, you need glasses.

I thought regular digital, satellite or cable, was wonderful, too. Then I saw HD 1080p.

If you don't go for 1080p you will regret it pretty quickly.

We run a Hitachi projector that is Hd and it amazing. We started with a normal flat painted wall for the screen and then repainted with a Goo systems product and it made 100% difference in brightness and contrast. http://www.goosystems.com/ . I do love gaming and movies on it. I would highly recommend not using them for regular tv watching. The bulb on mine has about a 2000 hours life spand and cost about $700 to replace. So you dont want to just leave it running as you might with a regular tv.

Just my 2cents

Dan

p.s. I wish I had a bigger wall I am at 155 inch but the projector is capable of 300 inch

I have to do the paint thing, but we do movies and big sports, do not watch regular tv on it.

If you get it at costco you can get a warranty that replaces the 2nd bulb at a much discounted price.

Mine is not high def, not even 480 but still movies look great.

The one thing you have to do is prepare for block viewing vs wide screen.

Movies are in theatre as wide screen but tv shows are square blocks.

hook it into a surround sound and you are ready to rock.
