Hello, I just checked the Ohms on the trigger and got "OL". I removed the white and black wire and the black and white wire from the power pack and connected them to my Ohm meter probes to make this test. All the info. I get is that I should get a reading between 10 and 20 Ohms. If the reading is "OL" then does this mean my Trigger is bad? I am not geting any fire on either clyinder and I have disconnected the kill wire at the pack no.5 terminal.

0 ohms?

either pickup coil is open or you have an open wire.

double check to make sure you were ohming the correct wires, if you were then remove flywheel and do a visual inspection, may be just an open or broke wire.

Re: 1972 50hp Evinrude Trigger

I got a reading OL not zero and I removed the trigger and checked the wires near the trigger. Still a reading of OL (open loop). The info. I get is that it should be 10-20 ohms. So I guess the trigger is bad. Do you concur? thanks

You got an open or infinity reading

Make sure you got the correct set of wires you are ohming, if they are correct then yes bad pickup coil or bad wiring, hope for the wiring as if not mistaken pickup coil is in the timer base and not a replaceable part, have to replace the whole timer base, check your manual. My experience is with the 4 cyl.
Yes 10 to 12 ohm should be the reading in ohms.
