Depends on how much is there. I use a hand pump (~$10) and connect the pump before the fuel filter. You can put the gas into a can and call your local city hall. They should have a hazardous waste pick up. They will be happy to take you gas and any used oil you have for free (in most cases). I had the same problem every year or so i was having to get rid of 20-30 gal of gas. Now i have a small 20gal above deck tank. Just enough for a day trip. At the end of the season I just pump out what is left in the small tank and put it into the car. This way the boat always runs on clean fuel and I am sure there is no dirt or water in the system.

the easiest way i have found, is to get a hose small enough to go thru the transom drain, remove the sending unit, and siphon it out on the ground, NO,NO, into cans these day. burn it in the lawn mower, ad a couple of gallons with a fill up in the truck. take to a hazardous waster facility.

Re: old gas

Well, maybe I'm a fool, but I followed several established guidelines for storing my boat for the winter.

I bought a gas stablizer and placed it in my tank, then I filled it to the top before having the engine winterized.

This is supposed to help the fuel lines stay flexible and keep moisture out of the tank with the daily changes in humidity.

The plan is to run all the gas out the first weekend I take the boat out.

Hope I did the right thing!

Daniel has it right, but if you do have some old gas already on your hands you will have to do something with it after you pump it out of the boat. Search the internet for "dispose of old gas" and you'll get some good info. The bottom line on many of the articles is to "recondition" the gas by putting it through a GOOD quailty water separating fuel filter (I use 10 micron) and then mixng one part old gas with 4 or 5 parts of fresh fuel. I've done this twice in the past with good success but I sure didn't put it back in the boat. I ran it through my old truck and it seemed to run pretty good on the stuff. Good luck but be careful!

Re: old gas

Old gasoline losses it volatile properties and collects water condensate. If you don't like your lawn mower use it. Even your lawn mower is suppose to be drained before winter storage. My dad use to use it as a fire starter. Grandpa use to use it as a solvent. :)

Re: old gas

ok time for a old fireman to speak up, if you need to get rid of old gas, ask your local fire dept, if they would be interested in it, We use old gas for alot of things:

Drip torches
Control burns
Training
ect.
ect.

so before you just pay someone to take it of your hands, as you local dept.

I never heard about gas loosing it's "volatile" properties. If he runs it thru a water filter as recommended he can use it about anywhere. I even had used it on my old blazer with no problem. Maybe I got lucky...

That is great to know. I think that is a perfect solution.
