Guy please forgive me, I am now at breaking down a motor. I order the book for this motor but it has not arrived as of yet. Quick question, I'm in the garage now trying to broke down the motor this evening. I'm trying to remove the lower unit, but the darn thing won't come off, I got all the bolts out of the lower unit, am I missing something before I take the big hammer to it, is there something else holding the lower unit from the motor.

You need to diconnect the shift rod, it will be below the carbs on the starboard side. Just disconnect the shift rod from the bell crank. Put a couple bolts back in though before doing this or the lu will drop suddenly.

I also like to remove the prop when dropping the lower unit so that I can clean old fishing line from the prop shaft and re grease the splines with marine grease.

Did you get the bolt that hides under the trim tab?

also if you have ALL the bolts out, and the shift rod disconnected. remove the plugs, and turn the flywheel by hand. sometings the seal on the drive shaft goes, and the spline rust in the crank shaft.
