91, 65HP, replacing water pump w/ out a manual. Just wondering if their are any special tricks for the shift shaft or will it drop easily?

Re: 91 suzuki lower unit removal

Got the LU off (pretty easy).

I do have another ??? though. The drive shaft bearing housing will not come off. It feels as though their is "spring" tension on it. If I pry it up slightly, it pulls back down as soon as I release. To compound the issue, I tried to shift gears (had it in forward to remove the LU) thinking this may help free up the bearing plate... when I shifted up, I pulled the clutch shaft out!

Is their a trick to getting it back in the "ball mechanism"?
What's holding the drive shaft bearing plate (it cleared the gear case pin).

Thanks again

to put the shift rod back in you have to pull the prop shaft out. the bearing plate comes out with the driveshaft

Does the prop shaft normally have to be removed to free up the drive shaft?

I know I've got to remove it now because of the shift rod, just curious if I would have had to remove it anyway?

you don't have to remove the driveshaft, just the propshaft.
