Re: 1980 55hp evinrude

Im not sure on how much a rebuilt kit would cost, I ran a 1979 55 johnson for a few years but just recently upgraded to a '94 60hp which has alot more power. I have some experience with the carbs, I am not a mechanic so I shipped my off to a reputable company on the east coast called outboard exchange, very good guys and it took only about two weeks turn around and im in hawaii, dont recall the cost but dont think it was that bad, id suggest it unless you are a mechanic, it might have been 2-3 hundred bucks for both carbs.

Thanks for the reply, I do most all my work, The evinrude should not be to hard, looks a lot easier than the merc i have!! I think it wise to solicit knowledge before jumping head long into a possible black hole Hahaha! besides I'm a cheapskate and a glutton for punishment, Thanks ukuhunta! also Carb adjust: specs would be helpful,

Thanks to everyone on this site" Tell Laddies Hey.

no worries here, a friend of mine took the 79 motor out of the yard but i still have the manual. original model here and would be glad to give it to you if you pay for the shipping which couldnt be more than 5 bucks or so.....could be helpful, its a bit used and abused but could be helpful, now if you could only help with the tilt/trim issue i got, its posted in johnson/evinrude forum, seems the new motor came missing the whole crucial component, thx

I just did the carbs on my 77 55hp and they were easy. Just make sure to have the proper tool to remove the jets. There are a few posts on here about it. I just got the carb kit and took the carbs to the local dealer and asked to borrow their tool and got new jets (also called orfices, I think) and just installed them there.
