Helpful folks,

I have a question for the group out there. I have a 1977 Johnson 115 that will run great. If you turn the throttle up to give it some fuel it will start like a charm and runs great, but when you pull it back to idle it will run for a few seconds and kill. I have had the carb rebuilt and i'm trying to figure out what could be the problem to go after next. I am not sure if there could be a timing issue somewhere or if anyone has an idea of why it would run great at speed but kill at idle. Any suggestions? Thanks a bunch.

The last time I start the boat was last weekend, so I don't remember the RPM's, but do you have a suggestion as to where they should be running? Also i'll have to go back and check if the jets were cleaned also.

Are there any other possible reasons as to why it would turn up good and not idle? I'm just trying to put a list together of things I can either check or have someone check if the job gets too difficult. Thanks.

Dollars-to-donuts your carbs weren't cleaned properly (if compression is good). Should idle 600rpm in gear in the water.
