I see a number of Sea Water Pumps available. Anyone have handy the Mercruiser Part Number for a 1999 5.0. Is the Mercruiser pump the best way to go or are there as good or better aftermarket pumps available?

Re: Sea Water Pump

What is wrong with the one in your stringer drive????
Personally, if I was going to go to an engine mounted pump of some kind, I would get the Volvo style pump that is mounted on the front of the crankshaft. That is, if the pulley you have isn't too deep for it.
The Merc pumps and brackets are going to set you back about 450 to500 bucks (not counting hoses) the Volvo style Jabsco pump can be picked up at NAPA for a less than a quarter of that price.
With a Volvo pump on your Mercruiser engine powering your OMC stringer drive, it REALLY will be a Junkyard dog. :p

Nothing wrong with OMC O/D. Having that Impeller being the only source of cooling has been bothering me. I thought this may be a nice peace of mind. I feel I still need to find a Chris Craft part and maybe one or two Diesel Engine parts to put on this so I can REALLY call this a Junk Yard Dog. You wouldn't happen to know what part number the Volvo pump would be?

You don't even want to try and run 2 different pumps at the same time. Use one or the other, not both.
