1999 Merc 90 Elpto need help

I have a 90hp that I purchased last year. Since I didn't know if the old owner took care of it I decided to replace the water pump impeller.

When I removed the engine there was no tube (the one that usualy goes from the pump up into the mid section to direct water flow)

Is this not a required part on this motor? What would be the effects of not having one of these if any? And if I need one, where can I get it since I'm not sure of the exact size?

Thanks for your help.

Yes, you must have a water tube to get the water to the engine, I think I would be talking to the seller or a lawyer

Seller passed away so no luck there.

Funny thing is the tell tale sprays like crazy temp is normal and ran for a full season with no issues. I know for a fact there should be a small tube there. From the diagram's I've seen they look to be about 3 inches or so in lengh?

Are you talking about the copper water tube or the plastic alignment tube, you said the tube that carries the water but now it sounds like the water pump alignment tube and it is not needed?

I'm refering to the plastic tube that just slide over the pump outlet (the one that you usualy have to align up when putting the foot back on)

Is it really not needed?

That plastic tube simply aligns the copper tube to the waterpump cover. You may be able to line the cupper tube up w/o it, but it will be difficult.

BTW - that plastic tube comes with every impeller kit.
