1987 Evinrude 30 HP not running right

This motor has not run in a few years. I replaced the fuel pump, the electronic primer is working correctly. I have to keep bumping the key in to keep it running. When I stop using the auto primer then it slowly dies like it runs out of gas. Any ideas?

Sounds like a thorough carb cleaning and re-kitting is in order. Since the primer keeps it running, and since you have a new fuel pump, it's bound to be in the carburation. The only other thing I can think of is a possible air leak somewhere in the fuel system, but that should prevent the primer from working properly, too.

starving for fuel, primer provides it. throughly clean carb. and reassemble with carb kit. besure to get the high and low speed jets.
