Hey folks, I was wondering if anyone recognizes what type of engine this might be. Its rusted a bit so I couldn't get a name, but the markings on it included:
-Code 8090
-OH 31
-3605-838
There was also a 30H Marine battery next to it.

If anyone knows what kind of engine this is (boat or other adapted for the boat), or what company made it, or general year it was made, or what the writing on it stands for, or anything else, I would appreciate it greatly. Its in an old abandoned shrimper.

Thanks.

Post some bigger pictures from side, top, and othe side.
From that one picture, as small as it is, it could be anything.

It looks like a Chev or Ford inline six to me with a marine manifold on it. We need better pix to tell ya more.

It is an in-line six. No surprise there. It is not of GM manufacture (at least from the Chevy camp) because their old "stove bolt" rocker shaft engines did not use a scaloped valve cover which this engine would need. It is also not a later model thin-wall cast Chevy six as they have individual rocker arm pivots. I'm guessing its a six cylinder Ford of unknown vintage. Another possibility would be something from IHC or perhaps even foreign manufacture.

Good point Silvertip- It has been twenty four years since I did the head gasket on my 250 ci Chevy Nova and I am fuzzy on the details.

I would also be interested in a few of the boat itself. I am fascinated by these old boats.

My guess is a Chrysler inline 6

In a old shrimp boat, it could be anything. Years ago I saw a Pontiac straight 8 converted into a marine engine.

A photo from either end would verify that it's a Mopar six cylinder. Their overhead valve six was a slant six design so the pan would sit normally but the block would be layed over. This doesn't appear to be a slant six however.
