Hey everyone,

I'm trying to de-mount a 1973 Mercury 850 from my boat, but can't figure out how to remove the throttle and shift linkage. It looks like it disconnects from the brass connectors going into the engine but I can't figure out how. Can someone describe how exactly you disconnect the throttle and shift linkages? I want to use the same cable for the new motor (similar mercury 1150) Thanks!

On the cable end remove the nut with a 7/16th wrench and on the anchor end take the tension off the anchor by pushing in on it slightly then on the retainer strap (that the upright piece) there is a small round t shaped lever sticking out of the strap raise it up and it will release the retainer which then can be lifted up out of the slot on the bottom to release both cable anchors
