On a 14' fishing boat where the battery is only used to power the fish finder and nav lights, would it be better to locate the battery box toward the front of the boat? The motor does not have electric start or alternator, so the battery will get charged via battery charger after each use.

The battery in a small boat like that is exellent ballast so put it where it is needed to balance the boat, generally boats are stern heavy so put it towards the bow to balance the boat.
Try several different spots before you actually mount it to find the best location.

if you can move the center support. and put a support on each side of the battery the red mark would be great, especially if you fish alone. front of middle seat if 2 fishing.

I can move the support and make 2 new ones since I have some work to do on one of the back side seats anyway. I was just looking at battery boxes and provided there is enough space between the floor and the seat bottom then I should be okay. I may also run the gas tank further forward since there is about 10' of hose on the portable tank.
