Trim Tab ????

I bought a 1989 celebrity boat and the trim tab was broke of somehow, i think thats what its called (the fish fin looking part on the outdrive) my question is should i replace or not. if i need to replace it where can i get one.

New ones do not use a trim tab with Power steering since the early 90's. With power steering you don't need it, manual, definitely need it. I see it as a safety issue. Is the zinc still there? Merc? OMC? Volvo?

My 89 Cobalt was missing it too and I asked my mechanic when I had it in the shop this spring and he said just as QC...that w/ powersteering you don't need it only if you don't have powersteering is it needed but since I do he wouldn't worry about it.

well its got a merc alpha one, the tab is still screwed in but the fin part was broken off some how . so i guess i can just leave it on there since it would'nt matter. thanks guy for the responses

The replacement one for Mercs with Power Steering is simply a disc with a hole in it for the screw . . .
