ATTENTION MODERATORS !!! If you think that there is a better place for this thread please move it. Thank you very much

Hello, We have a boat lift. Boat lift rated at 7000# Four 10" thick piling extend approx 15' above mud (at low tide)

We stored our 19' boat on the lift and now one of the pilings has settled approx 10".

I'm not complaining but...... Now the boat lift is very out of square.

Lift the sunk piling????? (I think) This is incorrect because it will just sink again. I'm thinking that there is a way to splice another 12" of piling on to the end/top of the sinking piling.

Joining Methods:......????????????

Does anyone know of a pre fab component...a double flanged end pile butt joining.........or....an example: a 36" "sleeve" that would slide down onto the top end of the piling 24" wrapping it and then bolted into place. The extra 12" would remain extended above the top end of the piling into which a 12" piece of Pressure treated piling is inserted and then all pieces are lagged together.

Or

I was thinking of adding a piece of piling on to the top of the sinking piling and then wrapping the top two or three feet of the piling with 3"x3" Pressure treated. The 3x3 will extend above the current piling 12" so as to also wrap the extension. All/each 3x3s will be lagged at least twice at the bottom and at the top.

Any suggestions links to this part or technique would be appreciated.

Thanks

take a chain saw cut down the center of the piling, 2' -3' then horizonal cut to take out 1/2 of it. now take a new piling, do the same, to mate with the existing piling. the use 3/4 " threaded rod, and thru bolt the pieces together, use atleast 3 thru bolts. this is they way they do it in marina's here.

Splice the piling as TD suggested, but first drive it further into the bottom at least another four feet. If you don't you will be repeating the repair in a short while.

yepper do as EC suggests.
The other three pilings and interconnecting framework is holding the one piling from sinking further.

Now, what if that spot has a spring under or real close to that piling?

As they said, but I would consider attaching at least one, if not two sister piles along the sinking one. If appearance is an issue, you can use 1/2 length piles and crossbolt at low mean tide.
