Yeah yeah yeah - carpet traps water, stains easily, gets fish guts in it, etc.... BUT, does this apply to the plastic astroturf-type stuff too? I just don't see how it could hold much water, being plastic (I know it will a little though, but I plan on drying it out after each outing anyhow), and it seems like it'd clean easily.
I ask because I think I want to replace the vinyl in my boat. It's 29 years old, and while it's in good shape, it looks dated. If I'm putting 100+ hours into this thing, it better look like a million bucks. Plan now is to use it on the sides with a painted (with sand) deck, but it got me thinking about using carpet instead.
So.... anyone with experience using the plastic stuff? Only downside I see is I bet it'd get matted down after a while and costs a little more than paint. Other than that, why not use it?
Georgia red clay is at all our lakes down here - whatever I use on the deck it'd have to clean up easily.
