motor height question

I have a 1960 75hp Johnson. It measures 20" from the transom hook to the lower plate. As close as I can measure. I figure this to be a long shaft, but I am told this motor should run a little lower than the bottom of the boat. Any ideas on transom height. It came off a boat and is going on the same boat that had a 20" transom someone had cut down. We put it back to the 20" height when rebuilding it. Do we need to cut it down again.

you are fine, as long as it does not run hot. what it the first time out.
