Hello All,

I am restoring an old Starcraft w/65HP Johnson. The boat is done but now I can't get the motor to fire. It turns over great and gets fuel/oil to the plugs. No spark though. I checked the in-line fuse, and read out the stator. I don't suspect the coils either as they look considerably newer than everything else in there. (I was told:)) It was rebuilt in 98-99 winter. Any suggestions/tips would be great thanks,

Buck

Disconnect the black/yellow stripe wire from the power pack and try it again. If it sparks now, there is a fault somewhere in the kill circuit

I have the same motor and had the same problem not long after I bought it. If none of the coils will fire, chances are that you have a problem with the key switch, the powerpack or the stator. Coil and timer base problems tend to involve less than all three portions of the ignition system.

I can't do it right now because I have to leave the house in a minute and probably won't be home tonight but, if you can give me a couple of days, I will scan the ignition trouble section of my service manual and send it to you in a pm.

As long as your motor is sound mechanically, and you don't have any major issues with the shift electrical system, I think you will like your motor. I had to do a few things to mine, but I have run it quite a bit over the last 18 months and have been extrememly pleased with it.
