Hi , I just purchased my first inboard boat it's a 1989 Arriva w/a mercruiser 228, It runs good, but it has a couple of things that need repair, one is the engine comparment blower, I see what it looks like it but the hoses dont go anywhere and i have no idea how they go, can anybody help me and let me know how they go? also while testing the boat this weekend like I said it ran fine for a good while, then when giong at a good speed the engine just stalled, any ideas on why?. like I said this is my first inboard and I'm trying to get it all running good.
Thanks, seroma.

Your blower will look something like this: http://www.iboats.com/Detmar_Tunnel...08894496--**********.540746748--view_id.38746
(they can and DO vary in appearance)

Normally the hoses connect to vents outside the boat, the blowers suck the fumes/air out of the bilge area and send them out the vents..

As far as engine problems it would be better asked in the engine forum!

When it died was it as if someone shut the key off? If so does it have a kill switch that you might have bumped accidently?

Re: Blower set up

Very important to get the bilge blower and vent set up correctly. Many boats are not set up right.

First you should normally have two hoses on each side or at least on the output side.

Bilge blower should have a hose that goes under the engine in the bilge. This hose should go as low as possible but not so low that it could be covered by bilge water. Then from the blower it should go to the rear Faceing cowl vent. A second hose should follow the same route but with out a blower on it.
The hose with the bilge blower is to suck the heavier than air gas fumes out of the lower part of the bilge before they get high enough in the bilge to find an ingition sourse or the engine. The second hose with no blower will suck more air out while going down the road than the one with the blower. Also in a boat moving on the water it will have more air flow that the hose with the blower when the blower is off.

On the other side of the boat you should have input hoses. These hoses should go high in the motor box. Above the flame areater.

The whole idea here is to suck the gas fumes out before they get deep enough to get to a spark sourse from the engine.

The input hoses are to put air in high and force the fumes down to the output hoses. You want them above any fuel fumes sourse.
