Chrysler Fuel Connector

I recently bought a 1974 Chrysler 10hp motor to fix up, It seems to be in very good condition but the fuel connector was sheared off at the face of the lower cowl. Thus far, I have not been able to locate a replacement - Sierra has tuneup items but doesn't have other parts.

Two questions:

Does anyone know of a parts source other than Ebay for Chryslers of this vintage?

I saw something on the net the other day that leads me to believe that Suzuki may be using the same connectors - does anyone know if this is true?

Is it item 3 in this diagram? If so part number is F197787Q3. Mercury sells them for about 19 bucks

You may be correct about Suzuki. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the same female fuel fitting will fit Chrysler, Force, and Suzys. I do know, however, that Honda fittings, while they look the same, are slightly larger.

If it is the MALE fuel fitting, it screws into the cowl and has a barbed end inside the cowl to receive the fuel line. It is about 2 inches long, overall. Try Franz at franzmarine over at The Chrysler Crew--just Google it--It comes up as the Chrysler marine site.

If it is the FEMALE fitting (#3 in the diagram), they are available at marinas and some Wal-Marts. However, the cheaper ones tend to hang-up on the male fitting and are easier to break. This is a case where it is usually worth paying the extra price for the branded part.

Before I managed to get around to ordering something from Frank's source, I happened to stop into a local Suzuki dealer. We compared their male fitting for the engine cowl with the female hose connector (stock Chrysler) that I have and it looked like a match. The Suzi part is metric so it is very slightly different in size but we felt that it would be close enough.

I installed the part in the motor last night - it fit perfectly, with the exception of the threads being a wee bit different due to the metric pitch. That was not a problem, however, because the part is stainless steel and it tapped the hole in the aluminum cowl with just enough "snugness" to insure a tight fit.

I tried to run the motor today without success because the fuel pump is leaking at one of the seals pretty badly. The good news is that the hose connector maintained a tight seal, with no leakage.

Time to buy a fuel pump rebuild kit and, while I'm at it, I think I'll do the carb too!
