I am looking for advice on purchasing a decent fish finder at a reasonable price. I don't want to spend a fortune but I would like something that actually works. Your input will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bohunter.....

No SONAR is decent unless it matches the requirements and expectations of the boater, Bohunter. What is a reasonable price depends on what you are getting for your money.

You need to tell us more about what you want and what you are willing to spend.

Best value for the $$$ in my opinion is the eagle fishmark 320. the 480 has better resolution also at a good price.

3 most important features in a fishfinder: resolution, resolution and resolution - get the most vertical pixels per inch you can afford. and if you can afford color, get that, too, long as it's 90 vertical pixels per inch or more.

I have to agree with JB.
It all depends on how you will use the unit.

Fishing for black bass in 40 feet or less of water depth then you do not need power or resoultion and can get by with a very cheap unit.

Fishing 600 feet deep in salt water then you need 1000 watts RMS power and a highest resoultion you can get. Also need some form of bottom expantion.
These units are not cheap.
