I need to add a little fluid to my power steering and Merc manual says use ATF type F, Dexron, or Dexron ll. I have a whole bunch of Dexron Mercon lll, can I use that? Also, can the same stuff be used for trim motor res?

The Dextron Mercon III will be fine.

You can put any oil in the trim pump. According to the Mercury service manual......Including motor oil.

Thanks guys! I finally get to use up something I already have, and I won't have to use anymore of my kid's lunch $ and another trip to the store today!

You don't want to mix fluids. Look in your trim pump if it's red, it's ATF and the Dextron will work. If it looks like engine oil (golden color) it is. Merc uses 10W40 oil, not ATF.
So check first and see what you have. Don't put ATF in a system with oil in it.

Thanks Don! I knew enough not to mix different fluids, but thanks for the reminder and heads up on fluid colors. I went out and checked both systems and Atf is in the power steering and motor oil is in the trim pump. Thanks!
