I purcashed a ESKA 3.5 HP engine and when I got it I looked at hooking it up to some fuel and starting it. I purchased a manual to get familiar with it and I am clueless.

The first question is about the fuel mixture - They have 16:1, 24:1, 32:1 and 50:1 fuel mixture ratios - Which one do I use it does not state in the manual.

The second question is the fuel connector - What pieces am I missing in order to hook up a fuel line. I have attached pictures. I purchased numerous parts and they all appear to be incorrect - Please HELP!!!

The info I got from the name plate is: Model 5826091 and S/N 74264.

Again this tells me nothing about the year of the engine - Once again the manual gives numerous examples of how to decipher and these number formats are not found.

Thanks for taking the time to help!!

Re: Fuel Connector - Please Help!

582-6091 is a Sears number, Clinton built motor.1965 First three digits indicate the builder. 582 Clinton,571 West Bend,574 McCulloch ,It is a J5 or J9 Clinton. Some J5 motors are rated at 3 hp.In my aftermarket manuals a 3.5 sears motor is listed but Clinton section lists only 3 hp.until 1970.Breakin mix is 16:1, 8ozs per gallon After breakin 32:1 ,4 ozs per gallon. All my 4 aftermarket manuals recomend guality 2 stroke or outboard oil.I would use TCW3 rated oil.I had a newer bigger Clinton based motor that used a Chrysler connector there may be a picture here at iboats in the Chrysler section.
Motor has an aircooled power head with a water cooled leg using an impeller in the leg.Clinton has been out of business for some years.

Re: Fuel Connector - Please Help!

Most Clinton outboards have a unique Clinton-only fuel connector that plugs directly into the fuel pump. Not many options there.

Re: Fuel Connector - Please Help!

the round tip in the center of the connector is the gas line. A piece of hose off of a pressure tank Johnson Evinrude will fit tightly enough on it to seal. You can used a different connector then if you want a quick connect. My understanding is the original connector is na.
