Hey there, I have a 67 Sportfour 60hp. Does someone know how to get to the seal on the shift rod in the lower unit? I replaced to seal on the output by the prop, and also the seal on the drive shaft, but I still get milky colored gear lube after being on the water. Thanks..........Zeph

You have to separate the upper and lower sections of the gearcase. Then the shift rod will come out by loosening the clamp bolt that you will find. It is not a straight rod,,note which way the bend goes. Once the shift rod is out, just pick the o-ring out of the bushing and squeeze the new one flat and slide it in. The yokes that the bottom end of the shift rod go into can be a mite tricky to reattach but it can be done. There is also an o-ring between the upper and lower cases.

Be careful when you separate the gearcases. The pinion bearing rollers will all fall out. Don't let them fall into the lower case or you will be going fishing for them.

Don't forget to replace the oil drain and vent screw seals (washers). These are a common leak point.
