Good day, Johnson 9.9 can be operated with muffs and water pump works ok. But with Force 15 hp I have to put the LU in a barrel of water for the water pump to activate.
This is a first time I see this ... is there a particular reason for this ?? tx

I've got a chrysler 140 and I have the same problem.
On mine I start the motor with the muffs on, then block the water outlets with my finger, it'll start to pump in a couple seconds after that, I guess it gets vapor locked and the water pressure has to build up. Thats my 2cents anyway.

My force 125 will NOT run on muffs, must be submerged in a barrel

I have not tried it yet (as per man) but will. Perhaps these force OB water system need to be primed to get going. Will keep you informed once I try it which will probably be tomorow or so.

There is a thread here somewhere from several months back on the same subject same horsepower engine. A reason was given but I can't remember what is was! I think it was titled something like 15HP Force not pumping on muffs.

I have a 1996 75hp force and it wil run just fine on muffs, shoots water out well. Make sure that your muffs are posotioned right on your lower unit! Make sure you have them in the right location as well as having the muffs centered. I personally think they should work on muffs, If not, something has to be wrong! JMHO! Good luck!:D

I"ll never know for sure since the muffs succion cups do not fit well on the inlett ports due to restricted space between the prop shaft cover and the top water plate. my 15 hp has a small LU. So I guess I ll stick with the barrel. LOL

Yes this was clearly explained on the 10 millions dollars post ... seems Force OB have a particular cooling system.

My force didnt pump water when I twisted the hose valve half way but it pumps just fine with it all the way open. Maybe you have too little or too much pressure coming from your hose. I talked to a guy at the boat shop and he said that some engines wont pump water if overpressured on the hose.
