Last night the 1995 Chris Craft Concept 18 i bought last week would not start. Hooked a meter up to it and it turns out i had a bad battery. The dealer was good and came down to my dock within 20 minutes with a new battery and we tested it to see if there was a draw on it (there was not) and if the alternator was giving it a charge like it should (It was)
While in the compartment we noticed a water leak from a hose. I do not know the name of the hose but it is a Volvo 4.3GS engine and if you go up the left side to the highest point of the engine assembly there is a large about 4" diameter hose that makes a 90 degreen turn down into the backside of the engine (this is on the other side of the engine as well). I assume it is something to do with exhaust but i am a real novice here. Anyway where the hose connects to the solid piece on the top of the engine there is a small leaking when the engine is running where the clamp is. The clamp was able to be tightened over a full turn but still has a little leak.
The dealer said it needs a new clamp but that the hose is near new and very pliable, etc. He said if he needs to replace both clamps and hose he will but he thinks it is just a clamp. He is going to meet me at the launch tonight to pull the boat out of the water and keep it for a day or two to go thru everything in the engine bay and ensure it is tight and correct. It only had 89 hours on it when i picked it up last week (I drive it a lot so it already has 97 now). I am sure some of this is from having a 13 year old boat with such low hours but i do not want to be ignorant as to what is really going on. He said it was fine to drive it last night so i did and as always it performed flawlessly.
What is this hose and what would cause that issue (Leak at the clamp). I checked the hose myself and it appears mint and has no structural deficiencies. The boat looks essentially brand new and i just want to be sure everything is right
Please advise,
thanks,
Robert
