Does 3.0l engine have an automotive relative??

I am re building a 3.0l mercruiser inline 4 mainly due to a bad manifold , and i was wondering if this engine had a automotive counter part for which i could pick up parts at places such as O'Reilys, etc. I know that items such as the water pump and head gasket need to be marine items and thats all fine but i hate having to order stuff like an oil pan gasket or a valve cover gasket and front and rear seals when i could run down the street and get them. I think that GM did not have the 3.0 version for cars but is the 2.5 the same block and ancillarys as the 3.0? Any help would be appreiciated greatly.
Also does anyone have a recommendation for a company that sells engine parts at the best prices.?

70 chevy II nova with 2.5 has the same parts i used them rear main seal and stuff , but let me give you a word of advice the rubber oil pan gaskets are the way to go if you get parts for an old car it will have a cork gasket , which can be used but its not near as durable in the long run, cheaper yes, alot , better no. Fuel pump , timing chain cover , rearmain seal all worked from this motor, intake gaskets will have to be marine though.

Ayuh,........

The 3.0l,+ the Marine 2.5l have the same dimensions,+ bolt holes in the Long Block configuration,....
But they share Absolutely Nothing with the 2.5l motor that GM has been putting in cars,+ trucks.....
Totally different Castings......

The original Chevy 2.5l, the 1 We know as the Marine 2.5l, was born in the ChevyII, in 62.... It's the old 6 cylinder, with 2 holes cut off.....

I believe it was in the mid/ late 60s that the 2.5l GM Auto motor was Intro'ed.....
Totally Different motor though....

I just rebuilt my 72 Mercruiser 140HP, (3.0L) and found that the Chevy 153 from a 66 Chevy Nova is somewhat similar,,,, some parts do cross over, rockers, some gaskets and other non-marinized parts. But then again a lot of parts do not cross over, pistons, crank, cam, water pump, marinized starter and alternator etc, etc...

Don't go crazy ordering car parts for your boat engine as most won't fit or are not marinized (lack spark suppression or corrosion protection)

Try Falcon Global on Ebay for the engine kit. A complete rebuild kit for my 3.0 was $380 shipped (Best Offer), they have re-ring kits also. Green Bay Parts World also sells 3.0L rebuild kits, their kit looks better (FelPro gaskets etc.), but is $100+ more.

I re-ringed this engine 10+ years ago and used a $50 FelPro 1 piece oil pan gasket since it's supposed to be much better than a 4 piece gasket. This gasket was ready to fail when I took the engine apart as it had ripped sections, 3-4 bolt holes had no seal on the inside of the engine. Only the outside of the gasket was still holding/sealing, probably due to engine paint keeping it in place. I went with the 4 piece gasket (the one supplied by Falcon) on the rebuild as I haven't had problems with this type of gasket on auto engines,,,, hope it doesn't bite me in the ....

A good local machine shop may be able to help you find parts also, did my 3.0 local machine shop charged me around 600 to bore, clean and new rings and 30 over pistons, gaskets were another 100.

I looked high and low for comparative parts but found it best to just stay marine. This engine was specifally designed for marine apps and they don t seem to use it anywhere else.

This engine is still being used in the industrial market. Forklifts, standby generators and such still use them. So for non marine parts, tell the parts guy to look in the industrial book.
