I bought a GT 150 1989 and Had a mechanic put it on, replaced the powerpack and it runs great. Anyway, We took it out for the first time Last night and when I tilted the engine up for travel I got home and we noticed some oil running down the back of the midsection. Not directly in back but off the the left if your standing behind the engine looking at it. I bought this engine last week and the man said he did a carb job on all three last fall and replace the reed valves. It is a dark oil that looks like burnt fuel oil mixture, there's no smell to it and so far it just happened when we tilt it up. Is this exhaust? The same thing was coming out the exhaust port on the bottom when we took it out of the truck and stood it up. Thanks in advance, Chris

Would that also explain what appears to be oil or gas floating on top of water near my 175 2stroke when I either lower then engine into the water prior to starting, or when I am idling at the dock (you know, the rainbow looking stuff floating on top of water)?

All part of owning a 2 stroke. Switching to a full synthetic oil, like XD-50, and keeping your outboard tuned will help, along with annual decarbs and a produck such as Seafoam or Carbon Guard.

Thanks. This year I am switching to Penzoil semi synth. I did a decarb last year (when boat was new to me- a 2003) and tuneup should be done in a week or 2.
