I noticed a crack in the fuel line between the engine cowling and the fuel pump. It did not go all the way through as best as I could tell by pressurizing with the primer. I cut off the cracked area (near the pump) and reconnected the line to the fuel pump, but it is now too short and runs the risk of pulling out or kinking.

I can't tell the exact ID of this line. It looks like it is 5/16". Wall thickness is about 1/8". So my first question is: Can anyone tell me the ID/OD of this fuel line should be? Second question: I just dropped off my mower for a repair and noticed the shop sells fuel lines for their mowers and equipment. Will this type of line suffice for what I need?

Earlier it was suggested that I use marine grade hose for the line running from my tank to the motor (to replace the grey !@#$). Can I use the same hose inside the cowling? Oops, that was a third question:eek:
Thanks for any assistance.

The original line was cut from a roll of 5/16 #319719. The newer (and better) superseding line is part #772564. It is resistant to alcohol and is more flexible.

Because of the heat in the engine compartment and other safety considerations, you may prefer to use the correct fuel hose.

hello,

i just redid all my fuel hoses from engine cover clip connection to fuel pump to carbs on my 1971 85HP evinrude starflight engine. they all were quite hard! and loose fitting. obviously old. i had several "fuel line clamps" types that included tie wraps! :( but it did work.

my line was 5/16" with about 1/8th walls like your's. i opted for new automotive type fuel line and all new banded type clamps. not the ones like small radiator hose clamps.

i got them at O'Reillys Auto Parts where i know the guys. they let me go and look at all their hoses. i flexed them all that were about right diameter. i picked the one that had the best flex/kink resistance, american made rubber. gates or goodyear.

i routed all the new hose lengths with no flex kinks. i had to remove the lower engine cover quick connect's 1/4x20 bolt to do it. i cleaned all of that area and components while in there.

then as luck would have it, i located a new [in the box, unopened] NOS 1971 evinrude fuel pump, pt# 383765, which was avail at 1/2 price current list. :D :D

my local marine shop quote nearly $20 for the 2 hoses. to and out of fuel pump. i think i spent $4 or so for hose, and used 1/2. i did get a deal as i located a piece of drop. i fully expect the fuel line servicing to be 'bullet-proof'...

btw, that part # for fuel pump on 1971 models served engines 50-125 hp.

regards
lakester

I was lucky enough (or unlucky enough) to find the "high-End" boat store just a mile away had some fuel line. Bombardier's own fuel line so I must assume it to be good. At $4/ft, it better be. They had some after-market stuff at half the price but it was much stiffer and a tad thicker. So I opted for the OEM. Hopefully I'll get another 33 years out of this stuff.

The hose I ended up using was MFG'd by Bombardier. I am curious if this is equivalent to the hose mentioned above. It is labeled "5/16 ES1763 032408 10:34 PRC BOMBARDIER FULE HOSE". I see by the date/time code that it was mfg'd on March 24th. So at least it isn't that old:)

Is ES1763 the same thing as what the P.N. would call for?
