Motor not running after some use.

I took the boat out a week ago and it ran great for the first run around the lake. Then we anchored and ate. Then when I tried to go around the lake again the motor wouldn't run. The motor would start and then slowly start to die at idle. I would pump the primer and it didn't do anything. After starting it and it dying a couple of times, I tried to start it and throw it in gear quickly before it died but it would just die as soon as I put it in gear. I eventually had to get towed in. I had just cleaned the carbs and did a link and sync. Any suggestions on what the problem could be? I forgot to add I have a 1979 115 hp Evinrude on a 14.5 ft. glastron.

Thanks,

Matt

I would say it goes about 40mph. I have checked spark and compression about a month ago and it was fine. I ran the engine int he driveway today. Since the enigne runs doesn't that mean I have good spark and compression still.

No, especially on the muffs in the driveway without backpressure on the exhaust. You cant be fooled by the way a 2 stroke outboard runs while on muffs. Check the spark and compression so we can troubleshoot from there.
