Any help would be welcome.

Thanks

you can get boat and engine dry weight at nadaboats.com the guess the trailer. or just have it weighed at a public scale.

Thanks For the quick response. I checked the site said Net weight 935 lbs, I am guessing its net weight with the motor.

So 350 lbs trailer and 1000 lbs boat so looking at around 1350 lbs total.

Thanks again.

you have a 2,00 towing capacity with that van with the proper towing hitch. remember fuel ands toys etc. you will be pushing that weight really close.

also with a van loaded with 7-8 people and the boat you may be over your total weight limit. Either way i do not think you will be impressed with your vehicles performance draging 2,000lbs around they were not made for towing anything more than a pop up camper. I owned a 2006 voyager and it did not perform good with 8 people in it let alone towing a boat.

Outboard boat weights do not include a motor for the simple reason the boat may have a 195# two cylinder two stroke or a much heavier four cylinder. Add about 250# for the motor and don't forget the full tank of gas, coolers, fishing gear, camping gear, people, etc. Your van will be stressed if its the 3.3L V6, less so if its the 3.8L.

Re: Bayliner 88 capri 15' Van tow?

Thank you all for your posts.

I just bought the boat for my folks who have the Caravan I think it is a 2007 SE edition, not sure if it is the grand SE or not.

They have a class 2 hitch and yes what I saw was 2000 lbs tow, but also saw 3800 max tow. So I should not look at the max tow of the Van but the standard tow?

It has thew 50 HP Forcxe that was standard on the Capri, So the net weight would be for the hull and nothing else?

So add about 250 lbs for motor 350 lbs for trailer and 935 lbs for boat hull.
So now that is close to 1600 lbs with about 350 lbs total passenger weight comes dang close to the 2000 lb limit.

If they only plan to tow a few times a year and only about 15 miles to the lake and 15 miles back do you still think this would be an issue?

Thanks again folks.

You already have a hitch. I say hook it up and see how it does. I tow a 3200 lb boat with my Toyota, though it?s rated for 3500 lb. Biggest issues will be stopping distances and rear suspension sagging. Your unlikely to overheat the transmission with a fifteen mile trip if you keep your speed down.

Re: Bayliner 88 capri 15' Van tow?

Take this reply for what it's worth, as I am not talking about legality, safety, or anything else like that, but as for what it will pull....
I grew up on a farm and I used to pull 60-70,000+ pound double cotton trailers (weighed, so I know this is accurate) from the fields to the gin with a regular 4X4 Chevy Pickup. It took a little technique, and if anybody pulled out in front of me, they were in trouble, as braking was a bit compromised, but the truck would pull all harvesting season long, year after year, after year with no problems.
That said, pulling on a public road with an overweight trailer is not something I would be comfortable with. When you are pulling, people will do the dumbest things imaginable in front of you. I have a 2000 Toyota LandCruiser with a 6,500 towing rating capacity, and I pull a '99 Sea Ray 190 BowRider with a tandem axle trailer (guessing no more than 4,500 lbs. fully fueled and ready for the water), and while it tows fine, no problems, I still wonder how it would do if I were ever to take it a really LONG distance. I think it entirely depends on how far you are towing, the type of roads you are towing on, and how comfortable you are towing with a decent amount of weight. But, as for your situation, assuming your weights and ratings are correct, I would think that your vehicle would pull it ok. Just depends on your specific towing situation.

Ball Mount with a 6" drop flipped upside down for a 6" rise.
