Want run when hot

I have a 1984 evinrude model E60ELCRE and it want run at high RPM's when it gets hot. I've only had it on the water twice and both times it would run great for 2 to 3 mintues and then start to miss. I've checked the stator and power pack with meter and they seem to check good. I'm really not sure how or what to check when it gets hot. Cant seem to make problem happen when I run it on the hose at home. Can someone please give some advise on what too check. Thanks

i would first find out why it is running hot. water pump rebuild, or bad tstats, or both. have you check spark when it is running bad, compression.

sorry i didn't mean its running hot , just that the problem gets worse as motor warns up. compression is 140 top 139 bottom. i got spark on both plugs when i check it at home. when i first leave boat ramp it will run wot for 2 to 3 minutes then it starts to miss. after that the problem doesn't show up until i get above 1/4 throttle. its on a pontoon so its hard to check when under way.

also i just swaped a 28 johnson for this 60 evinrude and ever since the tach doesn't work either. it worked fine before i changed motors. can someone tell where the tach gets its voltage on this 60 evinrude.
