Help Needed

I have a 2006 Nitro 700 LX with a 2005 Mercury 4 stroke 125. Everything runs fine on the motor. The problem is when I put it in the water. When I plane in my boat and am driving straight, the boat leans to the left as if I have to much weight on that side which isn't the case. When I steer to the right the boat levels out but then I am not going straight, I am heading right. Also my speedometer worked fine earlier in the day I took it out but them it stopped working towards the end. I'm guessing the steering problem caused this. I was wondering what the problem could be. Do y'all think it is something to do with the engine or could it be a cable that is causing this? I would not like to put it in the shop if it may be something simple. Any suggestions??

Thanks

Re: Help Needed

It sounds like the boat has a hook in it, take a 3 or 4 foot straight edge and check the last 3 foot of the bottom I think you will find the right side has the hook

Re: Help Needed

What do you mean by a "hook"? And if this is the case how is this fixed?

Thanks

Re: Help Needed

A hook is a concave area ahead of the transom on the boats bottom and causes the water flow to drive the opposite side of the hull down like a trim tab.

Re: Help Needed

We have never repaired a hook in a hull other than one of our race boats that I was very satisfied with.

Re: Help Needed

One more thing to check is the steering trim tab on the bottom of the cavitation plate. It can be adjusted in the opposite directon to the pull to cut down on your pulling problem. I had to tweek mine to fix a slight pull to the right. If this doesn't fix things and fixing a problem hull is not in your plans probably the best way to even out things would be to run a set of trim tabs.
