Well, let me start by saying, i messed up, i thought i had enough smarts to do this my self, but i should have known that a nurse is not a boat mechanic. I got my boat out on saturday and cleand it up, put the battery charger on it for a nice cruise on Sunday. Well needless to say, when i went to start the boat nothing. I noticed the + wire to the starter was rusty and when i wiggled it to make sure good connection, of course it broke off. So i took it apart, went to the parts store, and i will be darn, i have no idea how to put it back together. Are there any diagrahms out there that would give me step by step instructions. Please keep in mind that i am a female and have no male assistance, except to take it to a boat repair shop for mega bucks , that i do not have. Any help would be great. Thanks Sharon

if yer gonna work on your own boat, ya gotta have a service manual. i don't know which one ya need, but heres a link to #13 which covers 4 cyl. engines. it has a wireing diagram in it. that may help ya if yer wondering where the wires go. like i said, this may not be exactly for yer engine year. but it might get ya close enough to be on your way.

so which wire broke? the big fat, red one? is the question how to put the connector on the end of the wire? if so, take the wire and connector to a napa store. they got some big crimp pliers that'll crimp it onto the wire for you. they'll proably even just do it for ya.

maybe someone will come by and tell ya what severice manual ya need, exactly. that's what ya gotta have to do any kind of work on yer boat.
ya can also get the manual from mercruiser. it's ordered by serial number so i don't think ya can get the wrong one if ya order it from merc.

welcome to this forum. if ya work on yer boat. yer gonna love this place. many friendly folks just wanting to help ea. other out...... and many foks with much mechanical skills. the knowledge base here is incredible......

On terminal A, you should have an orange wire, a red wire, and your red battery cable.
On terminal B you will have a yellow w/red strip wire.

Just make sure you have the red battery cables removed from the battery before you hook up the starter, or you could make a lot exciting sparks and melt things.
