OMC Cobra 2.3 Question

Hey guys how's it goin?


I just bought an OMC Cobra boat motor for $300 that only has a 100 hours on it.
I bought it to throw in my Mustang for my turbo 2.3 project and when i took the oil pan off to look inside, its was really clean. But im unsure if the pistons are forged which is what i told they were, but they looked cast but there aftermarket thats for sure so im unsure, it has the stock steel rods and crank which is good. the guy i bought it off of ran 18psi through it of a supercharger. I plan to run atleast 25-30psi on this engine and i eed to know if these pistons are forged.

Most OEMs use cast pistons,

many aftermarket are also cast

The clearances required for forged pistons and the warm up time required are not compatable with people in a hurry to get on the water.

Generally speaking,....

Boat motors do Not have Forged pistons.......

They most closely compare to a pickup Truck motor of the same vintage.....

You biggest problem for running boost is going to be the compression ratio. Turbo engines run like 7.5-9.0:1 compression ratios. I dont know the CR for that engine, but its gonna be way too high for 20+PSI boost. Forged or not.

its fine. there steel, the ford 2.3 steel rods hold up to 30psi and up to about 550hp no problem

the pistons are dished so there low compression. about 8:1 roughly
