My boat dealer is suggesting that I get a new 2008 Skeeter SL 190 boat with a Yamaha 150 VMAX motor. He gave an alternate motor of a Yamaha 115 4 stroke motor. I have read the performance test info for the 150 VMAX. Does anyone have experience with a SL 190 with a 115 4 stroke? Does it have enough power to ski with 3-4 passengers? What kind of top speed can one expect?

Don't know on this particular boat, but 20 years ago I got my 19footer (deep V) with a Johnson v4 115HP, the year after I repowered it with a Johnson V6 150 and still run the same engine. The 115 was plenty for fishing....but was lacking for slalom ski...

With a boat rated for 175HP I doubt you?d be happy with a 115. The F150 4?stroke seems a better choice to me. Weighs the same as the V-Max, better emission rating and longer warranty.

rule of thumb for horsepower. minimum is 70% of the rated Hp. rated 175, minimum 122.5. go 150hp.
